two families by different mothers."


Elizabeth Thomas

Per Mary Helen Richards Ewing, Lafayette, Calif, Elizabeth Thomas Richards
married a Penna and lived in Rose Cottage, ?Lanner, Cornwall. Elizabeth Thomas
Richards Penna was living at Banner Mine, Oroville area May 1896, and in Sutter
Creek in March 1898. She believes she then went to New Jersey with her dgter,
Mary Richards George whose spouse ? went to work for ? Thomas Edison.

named John Richards. First John Richards prob died prior to 1862 when second
John Richards born. Bible lists death date of "John Richards (son)" as
15 Dec 1868, but doesn't specify which son this was. I assume this is death
date for second son. Also in bible under "Deaths" is "John Richards (son-----" listed under previous death date. This was prob an afterthought when they realized they had no death date for first son, but knew he had died.

NOTE: John Richards, Lannah, Gwennap, Dec. 13th, 1868, 4 years. {I suspect this is burial for this child, despite descepancy in dates. Family was in Lanner, Gwennap, and bible records were contructed after the fact, ?by Lucy A. Maack Richards, from info obtained from her husband, mother-in-law, or perhaps "my" Thomas Henry Richards sho was half-uncle to her husband, also Thomas Henry Richards.

Richards Peeples. Per Edith, "Granma never saw her father. He had gone ? to
Chili before she was born and never returned. Lillian (Richards Peterson
Hempe) does not know what his first name was. She was an only child.
Her aunts on her father's side were very kind to her. Her mother (Betsy
Stevens Carpenter) was in bed for 13 yrs. She took cold and it crippled her.
She caught cold getting up during the night to care for her father who was
dying. She crocheted for the gentry with very fine thread to help financially.
She couldn't hold coarser thread in her fingers as her fingers could barely
move. They had a little garden with their vegetables to eat. They went on
holidays to Land's End.
Her grandmother was in bed for 3 yrs after her mother died and granma took
care of her too."

71. William Henry Richards

Although born in Michigan, he returned to Cornwall, England with his mother
when the mines closed in the area. They stayed there until his father could
get a new start in California. Because of this we have yearly pictures of him
from about age 11 months to age 6. His mother always said that just about the time she got a garden in, the mines would close and they'd have to move again.William, himself, worked in the Keystone Mine in Adador City, Calif; ran a streetcar in San Francisco; and at the Post Office in Sacramento.
