Chili before she was born and never returned. Lillian (Richards Peterson
Hempe) does not know what his first name was. She was an only child.
Her aunts on her father's side were very kind to her. Her mother (Betsy
Stevens Carpenter) was in bed for 13 yrs. She took cold and it crippled her.
She caught cold getting up during the night to care for her father who was
dying. She crocheted for the gentry with very fine thread to help financially.
She couldn't hold coarser thread in her fingers as her fingers could barely
move. They had a little garden with their vegetables to eat. They went on
holidays to Land's End.
Her grandmother was in bed for 3 yrs after her mother died and granma took
care of her too."
